This Pathfinder is a collection of resources for Mr. Borek's Carmel High students  who are focusing on the study of  sports medicine-related careers and how best to prepare for work in one of the  sports medicine professions.  Please consider the following strategies and the many resources available in both the library collection and the college/career center in your exploration.  Good Luck!

I.  General Search Strategies
A.  Topic.  Try to spend a few serious moments thinking about your future.  What are your current interests and what kind of a job would best fit into those interests? Once you've established your interests and potential jobs, begin researching these jobs using some of the resources below.

B.  Selected Keywords & Phrases.
As you do preliminary research, pay attention to alternate spellings and/or names of your targeted profession.  Also keywords and phrases that repeatedly appear.  These words/phrases will become valuable tools to open up information resources, especially electronic ones.

C. Call Numbers.  Books about occupations are located in the 331's, either in nonfiction or reference section of the CHS Library.  They can be located using the CHS Library catalog.   Subject headings include occupations and/or  the name of your specific job.  The word job is not a subject heading.

D.  Preliminary Research. Utilize a general reference encyclopedia to get a grasp of your topic.  CHS maintains the print versions of World Book, Encyclopedia Britannica, etc. as well as the electronic Encyclopedia Britannica (password available for home use).

II.  Print Resources
A.  Reference Books  General Encyclopedias are located at the back of the lower CHS Library seating area and they may have articles on Sports Medicine careers.  They include World Book, Encyclopedia Britannica, Encyclopedia Americana and others.   Additionally, there are specific-subject sets which include:
