Mission Statement:
FRIENDS OF CARMEL UNIFIED SCHOOLS, a California non-profit Corporation (estab.1979) and Public Education Foundation, supports quality education within the Carmel Unified School District. The Foundation raises money for the purpose of providing grants and resources to benefit students, teachers and the educational community as a whole.
What do library computers, the high
school sound system, ceramic kilns, microscopes; TVs and VCRs have in
common? They have all been funded by
FRIENDS OF CARMEL UNIFIED SCHOOLS (FOCUS).
A dedicated group of alumni and parents of the Carmel schools who had
the foresight to realize that the quality of education was being jeopardized by
reduced funding of public education founded FOCUS in 1979. It is organized as a non-profit, tax-exempt
foundation to obtain donations for the benefit of the Carmel Unified School
District schools and students.
Simply stated, the Carmel Unified School
District needs financial help. Although
the California Lottery has provided a small amount of relief, educational
programs once available in the district have not been reinstated. The cost of education continues to
rise. This year is no different; the
state continues to under-fund education, our schools do not have the resources
available to fund programs that enrich your child’s education. It is up to groups like FOCUS to help close
the gap and directly meet the educational needs of our students.
